Brain surgeon is awarded $7.7 million after malpractice lawsuit against Cleveland Clinic

A neurosurgeon sues the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for medical malpractice and wins big.
Dr. Xiao Di and his wife Nan Qiao were victorious in their legal battle against the CCF and ophthalmologist Dr. Andrew Esposito.
On February 12, 2010, Dr. Di suffered a work-related injury to his left eye while performing surgery. During his own eye repair surgery, a hole was torn in Dr. Di’s iris and his left pupil was destroyed due to the negligence of Dr. Esposito and the CCF medical team.
As a result of the injuries acquired during surgery, Dr. Di is no longer able to operate as a neurosurgeon. On March 20, 2014, after a 2 1/2 week trial and just one day of deliberations, a Cuyahoga County jury awarded Dr. Di $7.7 million for pain and suffering, loss of consortium and to replace lost wages. Dr. Di, who was a neurosurgeon formally employed by the CCF, is also challenging his termination.
